A Challenge

September 7, 2006

Cameron’s sister came up with a great idea:

Name your worst going back to school outfit ever, situate it in time and give a little comment.

His answer?

Plaid, colarless, new wave, neuru shirt from Le Chateau.

I wore it with jeans and Chucks, camoflauge ones. One of the first things that I consider “fashion” that I bought under my own steam. I got it at the St Cath Le Chateau, and I felt like the king of the world. It was, in hindsight, one of the lamest things ever.

So, then the challenge… he fingered five people to answer, one of whom was… you guessed it, me.

I thought about this for a while. Suprisingly, I couldn’t think of one immediately. I remember certain shirts, shoes and pants. I even remember getting my picture taken in the backyard on the first day of school one year. But, for the life of me, I can’t be certain of exactly what I was wearing.

In the end, who am I to cop out of a challenge. I’m going to do my best to paint for you my worst school outfit (first day of school, or otherwise)

Here goes:
Bugle Boy acid washed jeans pinned at the ankle (remember that?), Agassi green and white Nike tennis shoes, and a white and black Cosby sweater, maker unknown, but with enough zigging and zagging of the pattern to make Google Directions seem navigatable (I do remember wearing a sweater on a first day and wishing I hadn’t — it was hot)

In closing, and in keeping with the spirit of this thing, I’m passing the challenge on to Matthew of Childs Play x2, Genuine, Queen of Spain and Because I’m You Father (maybe I can actually get a post out of him). Yup, you’re all on deck. And I am so kicking your ass at Fantasy Football.

Practice Summer

September 5, 2006

Is it just me, or did this summer FLY by? I mean, it was faster than a running toddler, yes? I have to admit, I am — perhaps for the first time ever — disappointed that summer is over. Well, I know, it’s not officially over, but by indication of traffic on the morning commute and the LD holiday in the rearview, I’m calling it done.

Jen had a good description, she called it a “practice summer.” And I couldn’t agree more. We just didn’t get as much summer out of it as we usually do. It could just be the reality of having a child, but I really do think it was more practice for next summer — we can do better, have a fun filled summer, and still have a kid.

I also chalk much of it up to the weather. It was either raining, or hot. I swear, there was month of rain. And rain is oh-so-much fun with a toddler who likes to run. Good thing, at least, that we moved to the big house instead of being stuck in the little condo in Boston. Wow, wow… wow, now that would have been awful.

Anyway, don’t get me wrong, there were some highlights:

  1. Our trip to Martha’s Vineyard (without Hayes, however)
  2. Going to Maine to visit the twins
  3. A surprise visit from my college roommate his wife and twins
  4. Going to my cousin’s and Hayes’ pony ride (and my GTO ride)
  5. Our first anual Sagalyn holiday
  6. Kayaking with my brother and sister and their significant others in Vermont
  7. Going to to see Little Miss Sunshine this weekend (yes, a movie — we only saw three this summer)

So, it wasn’t without bright spots. Just lots of not so bright spots. Not much bad, really. Just kind of “meh.” Oh well. I was, after all, a practice summer. Now onto practice fall. I’m looking forward to apple picking and folliage.
