Some daycare centers can be a bit paranoid about the fever issue. But do you really take him to the doctor as soon as he has a fever (I'm curious and not being a smartass)? Over here we wait at least a few days with fever and unless the kid is really sick he never goes to the doctor.

Hope he feels better and that your nanny is a supernanny. It's no fun worrying about daycare on a daily basis.

Good luck

day care sucks anyways....a bunch of people who could care less and are trying to watch over numerous kids who are sick, don't wipe, don't wash, and whose parents might never bathe.....on top of that, it's just a job for these people...

a nanny, that's different....good choice.

AD, nope, we actually don't normally take him to the doctor at first fever... we had been contemplating it on and off for about a week since he's been caughing a lot.

That occurred at our first day care too. In talking with the other parents, the same thing was happening to them as well. There was always one kid out from his class each day. We pulled him after the first year because it felt more like it was to manage enrollments by barely staying under quotas.

Hopefully you a very liberal leave schedule at work.

First point, eric, I want to make sure I didn't come across as an ass in that last comment thread, the only parenting advice I've ever got that was worth a damn was "do what feels right for you." So if this is right for you guys, then it's all good.

Jon, I think that some daycare's suck. I also think some nanny's suck. I also think that some parents suck. I try not to extrapolate though.

I wonder sometimes if all the info we have easy access to, websites, the glut of baby books etc etc etc (not to mention a million medical drama's) hasn't made us view sickness differently. My parents seem to have taken my sister and I to the doctor way more than we have ever taken Lucas. Not saying which is better, just wondering.

Nanny vs Daycare. They both have their pros and cons, but if given the choice I would go nanny without a doubt.

Both my little ones went to a church pre-school 2 or 3 days a week just so I could get a break (I stay and work at home) and they did get sick more often while attending.

As a mom with a 3 year old in full time day care (and has been since he was 3 months old), you just have to find the right day care for you. There are a lot of "babymills" out there, but also lots of great places for our kids to spend their time.

Also; The kids will get sick sometime- either now when they are in daycare, or later when they start school.

My daughter didnt get sick til she started going to daycare either. But the more brats, the more noses to run. Thats just the nature of the snot-nosed bratty beast. Our solution was this, I work, my wife raises our child. If you can afford a nanny, consider the do-it-yourself solution.

It's sad people have to make the choice between daycare and nannies...I mean, who cares more about your child than YOU? Of course finances are always an issue with everything so expensive and people feeling they have to work, but so many people don't believe in budgeting or cutting out anything. I don't know what your situation is, but it sounds as if you are a caring father, at least...so please do your best to raise your child!
