Snotty

March 13, 2006

Someone told us that Hayes would have a cold all winter once he went to daycare. And, so far, they would be right. Last night the boy had a few coughing fits, but not enough to keep him from sleeping throught the night (thank god).

For those who are squeemish, you may want to stop reading now — consider yourselves warned.

This morning, however, I went in to find a big black hunk of something firmly entrenched in his hair. At first I thought it might be poop, but couldn’t find any where it could have or would have come from. Then I realized it was mucous. Lots of it. I ended up cutting it out of his hair, thereby giving him his first of what is sure to be many “dad” cuts to rid his hair of a foreign stuck substance. For everyone’s sake, I hope the next dad cut is the work of bubble gum. Man, it was gross.

    Ewww! Totally gross!

My friend told me about how one time when her son was sick she went in in the morning to find that he had sneezed through the night. He had snot covering his entire face, like a mask, and it had dried. They had to scrape it off piece by piece.

Ah, parenting! I hope Hayes is feeling better, though.

We’re on cold/sickness 6 for Lucas. I can count them by the 1.5 week lulls between serious bouts of snottiness (as opposed to the simple runny nose).

    It’s great.

    I love it.

    Please shoot me now.

Hmmm, next time you might try olive oil or vaseline in the solidified oil slick.

you might try just some warm water. it loosens it all up.

This has caused me to really think seriously about some things which had not occurred to me before: I wonder if penut butter works as well for getting out snot as it does for gum?
