Bad, Tired, Sick Dad

March 2, 2006

I’m embarrassed. Really embarrassed. I tried to hide it. I mean, I brought a ziplock plastic bag just so I could put the cheddar brioche from Starbucks in it for Hayes’ lunch at daycare. I figured it was better than putting it in the fridge in the paper Starbucks bag.

Problem was, there was no brioche. They were out. So I substituted a croissant. Kinda lame, I know. So I bought one of those fruit cups. Thought that might make things better. Problem there, too: it had grapes in it. Pediatrician says no grapes unless they are cut up. So, there I was in the daycare parking lot filling my mouth with the grapes. There I had it, fruit cup, sans grapes.

Fruit cup sans grape and a croissant, all from Starbucks. I’m embarrassed. I should have explained to them that Hayes woke up at 4:30. I’m fried. I should have explained, but it’s tough when I have no voice because I’m sick. Oh well. I’ll do better next week, Hayes, I promise.

If your daycare needs explanation, you need to find another daycare! The apology shuld be for Hayes for eating his grapes. My kids would have thrown a fit if they saw daddy stealing their fruit!

Wow, I couldn’t imagine being sick, trying to dress the kiddo, rounding up the diaper bag, putting shoes on, AND making lunch. I’ve never heard of bringing lunch to daycare before, but there’s no way I’m complaining. I thought it was tough enough just preparing formula in bottles for the day.

Stabucks for lunch. That really made me chuckle. Though I can’t pretend that once my son is eating solids that there won’t be a few of those types of lunches, too.

How dumb am I that this never occurred to me as a completely viable toddler lunch option?

You think it’s lame, I think it’s brilliant.
