First Words

January 31, 2006

Hayes’ word explosion is happing infront of our very… well… ears. It started with “computer”… maybe… though I think my mom would swear to it… a few weeks ago, and is continuing with what I consider his first word — TC. That’s out cat’s name, for the uninitiated. TC, as in Tenacious C. Our nanny has been swearing that he’s been saying it for about as long as my mom says he’s been saying “computer.”

I heard Hayes say computer some time ago, but since I can’t replicate it, I’m not sure it fit’s my definition of first word. It has to be in context… and replicateable. I guess it’s my scientific side talking. As for the reports of him saying “TC” I never heard it, and, further, we rarely refer to TC as anything but “kitty.” Though the nanny calls TC “TC” and, admittedly, he has more time around her than anyone.

Anyway, today he said TC. Very loud and clear. We were sitting on the couch… actually, I was laying there and he was sitting on top of me. That’s when he suddenly started pointing and saying “Ta, Ta” and then stopped and said it, “TC.” I looked behind me, and, sure enough, there was TC. It was unmistakable. Yup, TC is his first word. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

(BTW, he’s also saying “please” and “thank you,” but that just started last week and I have no triple verified reports that he’s said it before that, those can be his fourth and fifth word.)

Hahah.. Lucas’ first word was chat… cats are so much more important that we are.

William’s first has “Hello” followed quickly by “Nein Nein Nein” (We live in Germany).

He also says “Otto” for his beloved stuffed rabbit.
