After much searching, a rather hearty price increase on our part, and 4 offers, we bought a house. Or, I should say, we signed the P&S to buy a house, which, as anyone who’s bought a house knows, is much the same thing.

It’s nothing like what we were looking for, but exactly what we wanted. Funny how life throws you a curve. I was soooo certain we were going to be buying a modern home (50-60’s modern) that I even bought the domain name “thismodhouse.com.” Of course, I was also certain it would take a while for Hayes to happen… but it only took a weekend in Maine of…er… trying.

Instead we bought a colonial that looks like it fell out of the same architect’s book that designed the house I grew up in (and, for that matter, that my parents have now lived more than half their life in).

Best part is, our closest neighbors aren’t very close, and we have no neighbors on two of the four sides of the house, unless you feel like counting the ones a few acres through the woods. I’ve had enough of close neighbors at this point, even the nice ones that we are lucky enought to have. We move February 10, and it can’t come soon enough. Ahhhh…. quiet.
