Sick Boy

December 6, 2005

Well, my birthday has come and gone — now 31 — which was great. Things here have been strange adjusting to a new job, a commute, and all those other office related things I forgot about over the last 5 years. But, overall, it’s worth. And a still miss H like crazy.

Today, even more than normal because he’s sick.

Yup, unfortunately it seems that he got the throw-up bug that’s been going around Boston. Last night he ate a cheerio — 1 cheerio — and puked. Then one peice of apple, and puked. Even before that he was acting strangely. I guess he basically sat on his nannies lap all day and whined. Man, I wish I could have been there.

Funny thing is, I’m definitely not tops on his comfort heirarchy. I would say I am, out of the 3 people he normally sees in a given day, soundly at number 3. I don’t take this personally. I know that mommy will always be number one. Even when he saw me more than her, she still had more comforting power. Dunno why that is, it just is.

Fortunately, Jen stayed home today to comfort him, and it’s been more of the same. He’s just sitting on her lap and doesn’t want to be put down. It sucks having a sick kid that you really can’t diagnose, you know? I just want to do something to solve whatever he’s feeling, but who really knows what that is? Poor little guy.

Bugger. That is the hardest thing ever.

What’s even worse is when you take the little guy to the dr. and you get told to take him home and bring him back in a week if he isn’t better. So you bring him back and the dr. tells you, take him home, give him motrin and bring him back in a week if he isn’t better. So, you bring him back after another week and the dr. says, “hmmm, sounds like pneumonia.” It’s hard at that point to not jump up and down screaming like a lunatic.

Anyway, I feel better now. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. And happy birthday.
