The Heat is On

November 16, 2005

Hayes has got a fever, and no amount of cowbells is gonna solve it. It started on Monday when Hayes was inexplicably cuddly. Not that anyone minded Hayes resting his head on them and acting… well… like I thought babies normally acted. It was like Hayes on 1/4 speed. So, we took the temp. The ass way. Which, you know, we only reserve for emergencies. Yup, he had a temp. And yup, it was a fever. 101.5, actually.

So we called the doc that night and the person we spoke with suggested we give the Tylenol and make sure he kept hydrated. He got up a few times during the night, but it wasn’t too bad. Come morning, he seemed normal. Then, as the day progressed, so too did his fever. By the time Jen got home at 4, his fever was 102.9, so we called and spoke with our actual peditrician. She said that if we could get in, we should. So we did. By 6:30 we were in and his temp had gone up to 103.5.

But no need to worry. It’s his first fever and there are no signs that it’s anything but a minor viral infection. In fact, our ped said that we were lucky he took this long to get his first. I guess that’s true, and it’s always good to build up immunities in a society that seems to get sicker by the year. So now we’re playing the waiting game to see if he develops any signs of something more. The fever is back, though. So, we’ll see.
