Miss Him Already

November 28, 2005

Well, I’m at my first day back at a “office” job, and I miss the boy already. I kinda have this dejavu feeling like I’m starting my first day of kindergarten or something. You know, life is changing — known become unknown. Really weird.

Actually, I started missing him last night while he was sleeping. This morning, for perhaps the first time ever, I sprang out of bed, just to see him. No, it was DEFINITELY the first time ever.

And, he didn’t make it easy. He’s been trucking around lately, getting into everything and falling down. 99% he falls well. This morning? Bonk, head first. I actually don’t think that he’s ever taken a header walking. Fortunately, I was able to come to the rescue (what are dads for?) and stop the water works.

Unfortunately, the water works didn’t end there. H has recently been all about mom. She leaves, he cries. Me, well, not so much. Until today. It was like he knew that I was leaving for the day. I gave him a kiss on the head and he started to scream and grab for me! It was AWFUL. Not ashamed to admit a shed a tear going out the door.

Boy, do I miss him!

10

November 22, 2005

Like 0, 10 will have snow, that is, if the weather does as promised. Unlike 0, 10 has walking, names (mama, dada… well, sorta, anyway) paddy cake, clapping, roll-it, so big and some crawling thrown in.

This has been H’s biggest milestone, I think. It seems that between 9 and 10 the boy became just that. And, to top it off, we get to show him off to the relatives on Thursday! Hooray!

Half and Half

November 21, 2005

We thought that perhaps Hayes fever might have slowed him down. You know, taken the spring out of his step. Set him back on the walking a bit. Nope.

Instead, on Friday, H started to walk with renewed vigor. On Saturday, more walking. By Sunday, half of his locomotion was walking. Today, even more.

What’s a proud father to do? Well, post the video (which is HUGE so you may have to wait a bit for it to load!) of course! Please disregard the grainy, bigfoot sighting film like quality, it’s all you can expect from a not-really-a-video-camera digital.

Back to Normal

November 17, 2005

Well, that was quick. Everything is back to normal. Hayes seems back to his old, non fevered self and the weather is back to November temps. So all is good here. Just please, no more 101.5 or 71s for a while. It’s too darn hot for all involved!

The Heat is On

November 16, 2005

Hayes has got a fever, and no amount of cowbells is gonna solve it. It started on Monday when Hayes was inexplicably cuddly. Not that anyone minded Hayes resting his head on them and acting… well… like I thought babies normally acted. It was like Hayes on 1/4 speed. So, we took the temp. The ass way. Which, you know, we only reserve for emergencies. Yup, he had a temp. And yup, it was a fever. 101.5, actually.

So we called the doc that night and the person we spoke with suggested we give the Tylenol and make sure he kept hydrated. He got up a few times during the night, but it wasn’t too bad. Come morning, he seemed normal. Then, as the day progressed, so too did his fever. By the time Jen got home at 4, his fever was 102.9, so we called and spoke with our actual peditrician. She said that if we could get in, we should. So we did. By 6:30 we were in and his temp had gone up to 103.5.

But no need to worry. It’s his first fever and there are no signs that it’s anything but a minor viral infection. In fact, our ped said that we were lucky he took this long to get his first. I guess that’s true, and it’s always good to build up immunities in a society that seems to get sicker by the year. So now we’re playing the waiting game to see if he develops any signs of something more. The fever is back, though. So, we’ll see.

A little different everyday

November 14, 2005

Call us crazy, but Jen and I have been discussing how Hayes looks different everyday. Know what I mean? He’s still super cute and our favorite all around boy in the world. That certainly hasn’t changed. It’s just that everyday he looks different. It’s really weird. You know, you get used to people changing slowly, but for Hayes it’s a daily thing.

Me, I just noticed I have laugh lines. Probably had those for a while, but I just noticed. Today, Hayes’ head appears to be shaped a tad different or something. He just looks different than he did yesterday. Anyone else notice this on their babies?
