Batten Down The Furniture

September 14, 2005

It’s now official. he’s crawling, much to dismay and displeasure of the cat. And, you know, the parents. Well, ok, it’s not bad at all… it’s just that we’re not ready. We need to buy all those thingies that make your house safe for crawlers. Like nerf furniture, that type of stuff.

Oh well, we knew it was coming. And it’s damn cute. In fact, we’re proud of him. It’s great. Gotta get those safetfy things, though. Last thing we need is another disaster of a hospital trip

Night Football Sucks

September 8, 2005

I used to like night NFL football. It used to be a fun reason to be groggy at work… or miss class in college. Now, with Hayes, it just sucks.

I’m exhausted. It’s 11:45 with 12 minutes left. Sure, all fine and good in the Pacific Time Zone. And fantastic in Hawaii. But totally penalizing the guy with the kid who gets up at 6am, a job and a wife with job. Oh well. At least it’s football season again.

Ahhh… football.

BTW, does anyone else notice that Randy Moss seems totally indifferent to whether his team wins or loses? Just asking.

This Just In: Boston Expensive

I already knew Boston was expensive. After all, Jen and I have been quietly house hunting but have found it difficult to find anything in a reasonable price range. So it only came as somewhat of a surpirse when I read today on Boston.com: Boston is the most expensive city to live in in the USA.

Some highlights for those of you who don’t want to bother with the BS of signing up to Boston.com to read the article:

  • A family of four needs on average, $64,656 to live in Boston (jury’s out on whether this is before or after taxes)
  • This is $6,000 more than NYC
  • This is $7,000 more than San Fran
  • It costs $44,000 or less to live in Austin, Chicago, Miami and Raleigh
  • There are only 27 Boston communities (down from 148 in ‘98) in which the median income can afford the median price home
  • Massachusetts is the only state that LOST population in 2004 — wonder why (I added the wonder why part)
  • The median price of a single-family home in the Boston area was $376,000 in 2004
  • We’re totally screwed (ok, so not part of the article, but true anyway)

Lovely. So, there you have it. Maybe we should move to Texas and learn to love hot and humid days and Brooks and Dunn. (Lots of “and”s in that last sentence.) Ain’t that what we’s s’posed ta do nowadays?

Gettin’ There

September 7, 2005

Well, it’s official, along with a nasty push up, Hayes has figured out how to get himself from stomach to sitting position. Along with this new found ability came something that looked disconcertingly like crawling. He’s not there yet, but he can move on his hands and knees very slowly.

Lovely. Looks as if the boy has taken off the gloves. Gotta get that child-proofing stuff out pronto. We’re screwed. We’re totally screwed.

Another Reason To Hate Blogger

September 6, 2005

Ok, I just finished up fellow daddy Matthew’s new blog: Childsplayx2.com. And I feel just awful. I’m very happy with the layout, don’t get me wrong. I’m just unhappy with Blogger. Yup, to make transitioning away from Blogger more difficult, they release your blogger name (aka subdomain) to the world once you publish your blog to somewhere else. Of course, you really need to hunt to find this info. And, well, it seems to be a new thing.

So why to I feel awful? Cuz someone snatched up Matthew’s old subdomain right quick. Bastards! As a result, I can’t redirect his old traffic to the new site. And that really sucks. So, please, if you’ve got Matthew on your blogroll, update your links to his new site! If not, drop in and check out Matthew’s life as a new dad with TWINS at Childsplayx2.com. And, you know, add him to your blogroll ;-)
