Part of me figures that there are going to be hard things that he will encounter for the rest of his life and he better get used to dealing with them and not bashing his head off them. You'll find, sadly, that the thing he'll have the most problems with is the floor. It's hard. It's right there. Whomp. The rule is "if it's sharp or pointy or just heavy and hard put it where he can't reach it." Apparently Daniel is an expert at finding sharp knives. It's always lovely to find your six month son looking at a sharp Wusthof knife... Onestepahead.com has a really good selection (Safety > Childproofing the home). They also had a soft gate for large openings - something I couldn't find at my local retailers. Good luck!
