Zero

May 31, 2005

Zero. That’s how many times Hayes woke up between 8PM and 6AM. None. Zip. I know, it’s crazy. Even more crazy is that it never got that bad. In fact, the first night he went without food and only woke up twice. By Sunday night he only awoke once at 3:45Am and was bacl to sleep in 15 minutes.

Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think it would be so easy to get HBomb to sleep through the night. Better still are the other side effects of his new sleep patterns: he eats more less often and he take longer naps without needing the 10 minutes of rocking that he used to. And you know what, I’m not even afraid of jinxing it. Yes, the Ferber Method works, and once horrible sleeping H is living proff. Thank you Dr Ferber!

3 out of 4 Ain’t Bad

May 26, 2005

In my last post I predicted the following and got three out of four coorect:

Today is H’s 4 month checkup complete with shots! I’m making the following predictions:
1. Hayes will be over 16 pounds… he’s huge, man, huge
2. Hayes will be over 25.5 inches
3. Hayes will be in the 80th percentile for height/weight/head size (up from 75% at the 2 month)
4. Hayes WILL NOT pee on anyone this time

So without further ado, here’s how I did on the predictions:
1. 16.6 — CORRECT
2. 25.75 — CORECT
3. 75% on height, weight and head circumfrence — WRONG
4. No pee. Anywhere. That was an easy one.

We’ve also received some guidance on The Sleep Challenge. We are starting the Ferber Method. For those of you who adhere to Sear’s philosophies, Spock’s sleep ideas, have babies who have always slept well or if you were just itching to find a way not to sleep through the night, here’s what we’ve gotten ourselves into: a sliding scale of time that goes up everyday as we let-him-cry himself to sleep.

That and we have to stop feeding him during the night(gasp!), stop rocking him (oh, no!) and take away his pacifier (oh shit!). And let him cry. And let him cry. And… well… let him cry. This should be fun. It’s one of those systems you pay into… with sleep and get a much more when all is said and done. Of course the amount we pay in to get him to sleep (they say it can take 7+ days) is going to suck.

Good times await!

4 Month Checkup

May 25, 2005

Today is H’s 4 month checkup complete with shots! I’m making the following predictions:
1. Hayes will be over 16 pounds… he’s huge, man, huge
2. Hayes will be over 25.5 inches
3. Hayes will be in the 80th percentile for height/weight/head size (up from 75% at the 2 month)
4. Hayes WILL NOT pee on anyone this time

I also hope to get some more direction in terms of getting Hayes to sleep better. He’s still all over the place, but definitely better. I think we are aiming toward him being able to put himslef to sleep without our swinging him… hopefully Doc will have some advice on that.

Not Appendicitis

May 23, 2005

That’s great news, as yesterday was marred by a trip to the doctors followed by the emergency room for Jen. We were out a mall yesterday when Jen started complaining of abdominal pain. Shortly thereafter, she could barely move because of the pain. I rushed her to the doctors (with H, non-the-wiser, in tow) and for the next 6+ hours we began yet another hospital oddysey… because, you know, we haven’t had enough of those in the past four months. After a CAT scan, the doctors concluded it was not her apendix, but could be ovarian cysts… still no good, but not life threatening.

So, after that scare, I’ve got a healthy Jen back, and Hayes has a healthy mom. Thank goodness! I’m hoping that on Hayes’ 5th month birthday we have an easier go… to0 many more of these is going to send me into a panic attack! But, as they say, all’s well that end’s well. Happy 4 months, Hayes!

Nice Move

This from boston.com: Disapproving dad allegedly attempts kidnap. Makes me wonder how he came by his wife.
