Hot Time In the Old Towne

April 21, 2005

Our first really hot day was yesterday, today we are back to normal. The day pretty much reinforced what we thought about HBomb and heat. He hates it. He was a cranky little dude yesterday who wouldn’t eat and wouldn’t sleep and went into two hospital style screaming fits — just like his dad sans screaming fits. So I installed the AC in his room around 7PM. The room cooled down, and after about an hour, Jen was able to get him to sleep

Then he slept. And slept. And slept. 5 hours straight for the first time since Easter. And in his room, no less. He then slept another 3 hours straight and then 2. Which put him smiley and wide awake at 7:10 AM. 7:10 AM! Holy shit! It was like being on vacation! If not for the constant waking up and wondering why he wasn’t crying, I would have gotten a TON of sleep. Instead, I’m supremely grateful for the solid amount I got. For me 7:10AM is the new noon as far as sleep goes. Tonight we see if he can go for 2 in a row. I doubt it. But it has to happen someday, right?

The first time Colby Grace ever slept through the night, my husband and I woke to a bright sunny morning…we sat up in bed “Oh my God!” I screamed “She didn’t wake up…something is wrong!”

We jumped out of bed and ran into her room to find her sound asleep and peaceful (and with a colic baby you know how much peacefulness is cherished). After that first night of hours and hours of sleep, it did get better. Her sleeping habits consisted of much longer stretches. It was a turn around point for both my husband and I. We went from walking zombies to more refreshed happier parents.

I sure do hope this is the turning point. You both have put in your misery dues!

    for you!

Isn’t it just a cruel joke that your body gets so used to waking up that when the kid actually does sleep for a long period of time your body wakes you up anyway and you check on him? Argh.

What really sucks about sleeping habits is when they finally start sleeping through the night long enough to let your body get adjusted to the new schedule then they decide, oh gee, I think I need to stay up all night again….

oh yeah, not on subject, I figured maybe you were on cloud nine like my husband… yankees in second to last…

They do that to keep us on our toes. There’s a secret signal that goes out from the MotherShip high above our pitiful planet that instructs the babies who sleep through the night to randomly wake up every hour or so and vice versa for the babies like the Hbomb.

It’s all part of their plan.
