Good Morning! (sort of)

April 10, 2005

Hi! I’m up. I’ve been up since 2:30. Just went out with the smiley boy to the living room to watch my movie. Cathleen and Cameron, I think you misunderstood my post a couple of posts ago. I don’t care if he sleeps through the night– and don’t expect it will be an everyday occurance if it ever happens. All I want is some sort of pattern that lasts more than 2 days. You know, so that when he wakes up a t 2:30 and quickly falls back asleep, I don’t stay awake waiting for expecting him to wake back up. Yes, that would be nice.

Ah… yes, that would be nice.. I agree consistency is something you can deal with, rapidly changing patterns that your body can’t keep up with suck. How old is Hayes now? Because the patterns started really showing up at mb 6 months with Lucas. They are still a bit fuzzy even now at 19 months, but they are there, to whit: somewhere between 9am and 10am he gets tired and gets put down for his nap, somewhere between 7 and 8pm he gets tired and gets put to bed, somewhere between 5:30am (arrgghh) and 7am he wakes up (usually he splits the difference and goes for 6ish).

I heard what you were saying, I’m just saying that I don’t think anyone likes the “bad” aspects of parenting…being thrown up on, changing poop diapers, sleepless nights…but it’s all part of the gig we signed up for. Parenting is a package deal, right? We get to take the good, the bad and all of the joys and challenges in between.

Mike’s mom tells of how when his older sister was a (colicky) baby, she would put Susan in the swing and then lay down on the floor in front of it and sleep for 15 minutes increments (and then re-wind it and catch another 15 minutes).

And Hayes is bound to turn the corner soon. If not, send him back and request a refund :-) Plus, in the meantime I bet you’re getting to watch some awesome late-night infomercials!!! Chin up…more sleep is coming your way soon!
