Colick + Not Sleeping = WTF?

February 23, 2005

I think we could deal with colick, if only Hayes was sleeping for more than 8 hours a day in very tiny increments. I think we could deal with his tiny sleep increments if only he didn’t bawl for 4 hours a day. We are going to the pediatrician tomorrow. Thank you. Thank you.

So sorry about the colick. Just remember that it’s generally a short-term thing. And you may want to check out getting a Baby Papasan.

This too shall pass. Both of mine had colick. My daughter (now 2.75 years) had it for reasons we could never figure out. We tried everything. It finally went away when she was 3.5 months old. My son had reflux and gas issues. Again, though, it went away at about 3.5 months. Just hang in there and use as much Mylicon as needed (wonderful stuff, that Mylicon).

A word of warning from someone who knows — be careful with those colicky babies. You tend to hold them a LOT more than the non-colicky kind, an attempt to keep them quiet and as happy as possible. They get used to that and you can’t put them down without starting a screaming fit (from them, and then you) when they’re six months old. Bleah.

Good points, DadSteve. Eric - We also started using a soy formula, and that seemed to help to settle the baby.
