Hi...I'm the mystery person whose cousin Elizabeth left you the note. I picked up on your site via DaddyTypes and, as a relatively new mom myself, it was difficult not to get drawn into the excitement and drama of Hayes' arrival. Good luck with the BF; just remember it will get better!

I'm sure you don't want to hear this but . . this can take a few days, and yes Hayes will be an unhappy guy until there is milk. I eventually resorted to half a beer -- I heard somewhere that beer gets the milk flowing. Maybe a coincidence, but it worked for me. I suppose you could ask the medical folks if there is any harm in it.

I have to say the beer worked for me as well! 1/2 a Guinness and I was on my way. I'm thinking though that due to Hayes choice of entry into this kind world, Jen might be prohibited from alcohol consumption with her pain meds. Oatmeal works wonders too!

Oh, the joys of lactation! Just wait until Jen's first blocked duct or cracked nipples - that will make some fun blog fodder. Strangely enough, it's an interesting balance to the hemerroids and swollen feet of pregnancy, but I digress.

For whatever it's worthm my milk "came in" 48 hours post-labor (as if it's a delivery or something). And until then it sucked. Or rather, it didn't. The baby, that is. They didn't tell me that the actual onset of one's milk production involved a 102 degree temperature and flu-like symptoms. Turned out I wasn't dying from some awful Victorian-era post-labor infection. Just Mother Nature doing her thing. Who knew?

Jen is, indeed, a stud muffin. And I am not some random freak who stumbled across this blog - although there might be some out there. Larry sent me. ;-) Blame him.

nipple cream

Some mothers have difficulties when feeding their baby. Sometimes the nipple can become sore and cracked.
